Katharina Nielsen: The One Who Almost Got There

Poor Katharina. While everyone else is hopping through time like it’s public transport, she never quite makes it. The wife of Ulrich and mother of Mikkel, she’s left trying to solve their disappearances while also dealing with the mess that is Winden. She spends a lot of time refusing to believe in time travel until the proof is staring her in the face. At that point, what else can you do but accept your town is a sci-fi nightmare?
Mikkel Kahnwald: The Kid Who Started It All
Mikkel vanishes in 2019 and reappears in 1986, which is about as unlucky as it gets. Since time travel rules are apparently set in stone, he never makes it back. Instead, he grows up as Michael Kahnwald, marries Hannah, and has Jonas, only to later die by suicide in 2019, kickstarting yet another loop. Essentially, his life is a giant paradox, and he never even gets a say in it.
Egon Tiedemann: The Detective Who Missed Everything

Egon is Winden’s police officer, which should mean he’s good at solving crimes. He is not. He investigates the disappearance of Mads Nielsen in 1986, fails to put the pieces together, and later arrests Ulrich in 1953 for crimes he didn’t commit. By the time he starts realizing there’s something weird going on, it’s too late. He threatens to expose Winden’s nuclear secrets and gets killed by his own daughter, Claudia. Rough.
